If you installed Lync for Mac 2011 14.0.7 earlier this year, you may have been dismayed to discover that the application crashes often. Our Mac users would experience crashes when the Mac woke from sleep or the display changed most often. Microsoft also reported crashes when you plug or unplug a USB headset.
It turns out that Microsoft released a hotfix for this issue on January 29th, 2014. The hotfix is under the “you must call Microsoft support” gotcha though. I filed a case under our Office 365 support agreement and was able to receive the hotfix within a few hours.
There are two other issues the fix should address:
- Can’t sign in or see pictures in Lync for Mac 2011 when system time zone is set to UTC+8 or an earlier time zone (Microsoft KB link)
- Presence status isn’t updated based on Outlook for Mac 2011 calendar in Lync for Mac 2011 (Microsoft KB link)
The hotfix updates the build of Lync for Mac to 14.0.7 (140123). After installing it, my crashes have disappeared.
Hopefully this will make it into general release soon.
