Description/Required Skills: 

This position will work on site as a Mainframe Operations Lead and is considered to be a senior position within the Office of Information Technology for the State of Alabama located in Montgomery, Alabama. This position has the potential to convert into a State Employee at the end of the contract or there could be a second contract awarded.

 This position will take direction from the SBS IT Manager and SBS staff, the programmer analyst will be trained to maintain and support interfaces for the State ERP system. This position will be responsible for maintaining existing interfaces as well as working with team members and other state agencies to develop new interfaces to and from the ERP system. Technical Environment: The current technical environment for interface development is windows servers. The ERP uses an Oracle database. We use PDI (Pervasive Data Integrator/Actian) for data transformation from whatever source to XML.

Requirements for the Mainframe Operations Lead position include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Technical experience in high-availability Mainframe, Open Systems, multi-datacenter, and virtualized environments
  2. Solid working knowledge of IT infrastructure and technologies; ability to understand the overall architecture of a solution
  3. Excellent knowledge of IBM zSeries and IBM Power Systems hardware and operating system
  4. Excellent vendor management skills
  5. Experience in hardware / software troubleshooting of critical business systems
  6. Experience with management of full SDLC infrastructure
  7. Prefer experience leading a mainframe relocation project
  8. Proven ability to analyze data, troubleshoot problems, provide recommendations and follow up on their implementation
  9. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including customer / client communication skills
  10. Commitment to a high level of integrity, honesty, and openness
  11. This job requires to clearly communicate with people at different level in the organization, within and outside of the Office of Information Technology
  12. Establish and build successful relationships with key clients and partners across all locations
  13. Excellent communication, strategic, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise presentations to all levels of the organization, partners and clients
  14. Demonstrated track record of leading change and operational excellence
  15. Serve as single point of contact for all mainframe issues

Required Skills:

  1. Experience leading mainframe infrastructure services and support teams and hands-on technical expertise building and supporting some or all of the following technologies:
    1. CICS
    2. DB2
    3. Mainframe Communications (such as Connect:Direct)
    4. Global Mirror
    5. HyperSwap
    6. MGM
    7. Data centers (private or co-location)
    8. High Availability
    9. Active-Active
  2. Disaster recovery Intermediate understanding of and working experience with Mainframe Maintenance
  3. Mainframe Hardware and I/O configuration Advanced understanding of and working experience with:
    1. Mainframe z/OS
    2. Mainframe Data Storage Systems (Disk & Tape)
    3. Mainframe Networking
    4. Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Software
    5. Software troubleshooting
    6. Job Control Language (JCL)
    7. Incident management
    8. Technology upgrades Mainframe Application infrastructure
    9. Batch application infrastructure (including JCL, Supporting Utilities, and Job Schedulers (CA7))
    10. Application and system level security (such as RACF)

Professional Certifications: 

  1. Certifications in Mainframe Operations and Management desired

Education:

  1. BA/BS degree in an IT or related field

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  1. Minimum 10 years of senior operations leadership in a high volume, complex environment
  2. Five years managing multiple vendors
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in 24/7 production & maintenance in an IBM Mainframe environment
  4. Minimum of 5 years of experience with JCL and IBM Monitoring tools
