Web Applications Programmer


This position will work on site as a Web Applications Programmer for the Finance Department, State of Alabama located in Montgomery, Alabama. This position is a short-term contract and may convert to a state position.

The Web Applications Programmer will support the Finance Department and develop, maintain, and support applications for the organization’s Internet/Intranet sites. The candidate gathers and analyzes requirements and will program all or selected components of Web applications. They will document components and applications. The Web Application Programmer develops automation techniques to enable end-user content publishing; programs, tests and implements mapped graphic images, forms and HTML pages; handles client browser support inquiries; maintains links to external sites and accuracy on internal links while ensuring up-to-date information. They will research, evaluate and recommend new Internet tools and applications for use in assigned responsibilities. The candidate will receive direction from the senior level Web Applications Programmer and the SBS IT Manager and SBS staff.  The programmer analyst will be trained to maintain and support the Kronos WFC and batch WIM processes. This position will be responsible for assisting with on-going employee time and attendance application configuration updates and testing of new processes. The programmer will also learn how to tie SQL code into the WIM process to manipulate data, produce file feeds and/or produce notifications for administrators. Technical Environment: 8 web Windows servers, 8 Windows application servers, 2 Windows BGP WIM servers, 1 Windows mobile server, 1 Windows SQL server, 3 Windows timeclock servers, 1 Linux TeleTime server, IIS, F5 for load balancing, JBOSS.

  1. Develops solutions requiring analysis and research
  2. Works on small to large, complex projects that require increased skill in multiple technical environments and possesses knowledge in a specific business area
  3. Good hands-on training and communication skills
  4. SQL programming
  5. Web Application Configuration with a customized vendor application; training of which was provided by vendor or instructional materials)
  6. Basic understanding of vendor web application configurations/settings in relationship to work rules, environment settings, functional aspects, calendars, templates, and navigational tools.
  7. Good communication skills.

Additional Skills Desired: 

  1. Any experience with application upgrades or patches is a plus
  2. IIS experience is a plus
  3. Kronos Workforce Central (WFC) and integration manager (WIM) experience is a plus but not required
  4. Any experience with Kronos InTouch time clock configuration or 4500-time clock configurations.

Required Qualifications/Experience: 

1.     SQL coding (3+ years’ experience in a work environment)

2.     2+ years or supporting vendor applications with a basic understanding of vendor web application configurations/settings in relationship to work rules, environment settings, functional aspects, calendars, templates, and navigational tools


1.     Associates degree in IT field or study or Bachelor degree in IT

 Optional/Desired Qualifications:

1.     Any experience with Kronos time and attendance applications

Special Requirements: 

  1. -6 to 8-month contract in hopes of become approved for merit status and rolling into permanent State of Alabama merit position
  2. Salary will max at $65K/year and will be based on performance and skill sets
  3. Agency, management and team will be training from the ground up so seeking candidates who are eligible and willing to transition into the State merit system
  4. Resource selected will be thoroughly trained by current merit employee who is migrating to another application
  5. It will be critical that this resource has the ability to take direction and has a strong ability/desire to learn and grow within this team
